Google and Samsung - ‘Wear’ as One
Google and Samsung’s team playing go way back. The latest in the collaboration is their new wearable. That’s right! The best features of Google WearOS and Samsung’s TizenOS are coming together in their new and improved ‘Wear’able device. This wearable was announced in the recently held Google I/O keynote, where Google’s Sameer Samat highlighted three key areas where this smartwatch will excel.

First is the unified platform in collaboration with Samsung. The two companies together came up with their best features to give us better battery life and improved performance for Google's watch WearOS. Both the companies’ OS was lagging far behind Apple OS.
With this new upgrade, it will be easier for developers to build great apps for the watch with a single set of APIs. It could lead to a whopping 30% faster app launches, smoother animations, and transitions.
The best feature of this upgrade would be something we’ve always wanted in our wearable devices- a longer battery life! By using a smaller core, this device can give a much longer battery life with improved features, which is without a doubt, a better upgrade than previous versions.
Second upgrade we can expect from this device is a ‘new consumer experience’. The new upgrade would allow us to update Google apps. There is a new navigation system upgrade that would let us access time-saving shortcuts like switching between apps by double pressing. Imagine you’re jogging and suddenly see a hill terrain, you can easily switch to Spotify by double pressing to put on a motivational song and come back to your activity tracker by doing the same in no time.
Another highlight is the expansion of tiles in the watch. People can now customize their home screens with the addition of several new tiles available for use. They can also take advantage of other features like turn-by-turn GPS navigation on Google Maps, use Google Pay, enjoy YouTube music offline, and experience the best of Google right from your smartwatch.
The third and much-awaited upgrade is the integration of Fitbit, with its ‘world-class health and fitness’ in the new smartwatch. Fitbit, a recent addition to Google's list of acquisitions will give its most popular features to this wearable making it the cream of the crop. With the smaller core, it will be easier for the device to track health progress like heart rate throughout the day without draining the battery life.
The days of pure TizenOS smartwatches are done. It’s now time to see Google and Samsung coming together to give their super-platform for smartwatches with some of the best features of Fitbit to join in on the fun.
It would be interesting to see if this OS will come to old hardware, if it doesn’t it might upset many users despite being a wonderful update. What are your views on this collaboration? Leave a comment below!
